Surrounding Areas

exclusive apartments and a select lifestyle

The apartments in Residencial Sa Marina are located in an area with many interesting features:

Palma de Mallorca: The capital of the island is located 15 km away from Residencial Sa Marina. Palma is a modern and lively city with a large history reflected in its layout and monuments. The area immediately surrounding the cathedral typifies old Palma, notably in the city’s tiered Parc de la Mar which offers splendid views of the waterfront, and the grand Almudaina Palace, a formal royal residence dating back almost 700 years. Mazes of narrow alleys and cobblestone streets echo the era when Palma was one of the chief ports in the Mediterranean.

Algaida: A two-minute drive from Residencial Sa Marina and 17 km from the city-center of Palma. The primitive parish of Algaida (pop. 3,902) is situated between the walls encompassing old rural routes from the city. The first Christian church of Mallorca, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Pau de Castellix, constructed in the thirteenth century, is located 4km in the direction of Randa. Algaida’s other parochial church, Sant Pere y Sant Pau, is constructed in the Gothic style and enclosed between passages near the street of L’Amargura. El Molino Harinero and El Molí d’en Xina, now housing artisan studios and exhibits, are two mills representative of local architecture, which may be of interest to visitors.

Following the highway towards Manacor, visitors will encounter one of the major attractions of Algaida: Gordiola, a company that has manufactured art glass in the traditional manner since beginning production in 1719. Visitors may tour the factory to observe the fascinating manufacturing process and purchase one of the many pieces available for sale. Replicas of Roman glass are on display as well a bodega featuring wine tasting and liquors.

Randa: A small unspoiled island village in the direction of Llucmajor (4 km from Algaida), located on the slopes of Puig de Randa. The little urban centre contains old but well-preserved rambling houses and restaurants with an established reputation for outstanding cuisine.

The Puig de Randa holds three sanctuaries:

Nostra Senyora de Gracia: From 1497, a sheltered rural place of quiet worship, with views spanning the southern part of the island.
Ermita de Sant Honorat: Founded by the horseman Arnau Desbrull in the 17th century, as indicated by the timeworn tablet in the entrance hall. Absolute silence throughout the hermitage.
Santurario de Nostra Senyora de Cura: Situated on the peak of the mountain, where the philosopher and missionary Ramon Llul (1232-1316) received the inspiration to write the Ars Magna. The grammar classroom now houses a museum intended to revive the importance of the Escola Llul-liana.
